Bored of Facebook? Nahh….

I recently joined Facebook. It is supposed to be one of the best and high rated social networking website but I didn’t join for no reason. I did this to help Facebook to regain it’s value which is dipping as per market analysis. :angel: After joining Facebook, I sent all of the friends on Facebook request for friendship. That script peeked into my Gmail contacts to find friends. I didn’t like that. Anyways, I joined and no friends so what to do??

While exploring the Facebook I found Facebook applications. I could install applications and use them.  I could install games  and play them. These are called social games. So I started searching for Facebook games as I was bored on Facebook. While searching I found this game called Metropolis. This game is strategy game and I love strategy games. So this gathered some interest.

The game is very simple. I am mayor of a city and I have to build the city from scratch. I cannot become a mayor in real but at least virtually. 😀 You get to buy empty plots for certain amount and then you develop those plots. You get revenue and you have to pay taxes. Taxes don’t leave your back in virtual world also. Good thing is that you decide and set the taxes. Don’t set them too low in order to keep citizens happy.

You can raise the cultures as you want. You get beautiful landmarks as rewards. You decide the type of city you’ll build. Whether it’ll be wealthy or rich in culture. You can play on your own or combine play with other Facebook users. Easy to use interface, Simple way to display stats will make you  addicted to the game. If at all I become a mayor in future I will have thank to this game for teaching me how to become one.

The Game of Olympics

There are many definitions of life. One of them is that Life is a game. Yeah life is a game. It becomes fun when you realize that it is game. We all love games. Whatever age we are we love at least one type of game or sport. Is there anyone who doesn’t have such likings?? He needs some treatment. The game becomes more fun when you realize that it’s just game.

I am writing this because of the ongoing Olympics in China. It is almost twelve days after the games started and I am writing about it now. I never had a really good topic to write a post. What would I write?? Phelps making world record of 8 Golds?? Talk about the record number of records broken?? Talk about throwing medals after winning?? No. You have newspapers and TV for such things.

I am totally unaware of the games. The only thing that gives some knowledge about the Olympics is daily newspaper. On the sports page I find the record setters. Most of these days all focus was on Phelps. And on inner pages there were some articles about our athletes. Disappointing performance by Indians. The only good part is we won a gold in shooting.

Olympics is set of games. Read the wiki pages to know more about wiki. There are different types of games originating from different countries. The athletes need to play the game in sporty manner. It’s just a game. Realize that. There should be free environment for athletes. There should be no pressure put on an athlete making him strive for gold. These expectation often kill the athlete.

The money behind the winner tempts others. Almost every state gave our only gold winner many perks. Free lifetime railway pass, Cash money, Money by check etc. Will he continue the journey?? He got enough to settle down. He should continue. Yesterday Liu Xiang failed due to injury. There were lot of expectations. He was everywhere. They forgot it’s just a game.

Games need to be played in the way they are. Just to entertain yourself. I hope something similar gets out there.

Disappointing UEFA

After the 2003 Cricket Worldcup my inclination towards Hockey and Football increased. And I had this football craze since 2002 Worldcup. I remember playing FIFA for long hours since then. So I was keen about this UEFA 2008. The Germany Vs, Poland match though Germany won I felt Poland played very well. A bit disappointing performance from Germany. And then yesterday.

I never imagined that Italy will loose so easily and that too by 3-0 margin. Truly disappointing. Are they World champions?? was the question which striked me many times while watching this. Though there are controversies about first goal being offside( which i think is right) I was expecting much better play from them. The Polish team played well. Or should I say played very well.

The other match between France Vs. Romania. I said blindly France will win by good margin. And what is the result. A 0-0 draw. If such things continue to happen then I’ll have to stop watching Football also. I was cursing Tata Sky, My DTH operator, for removing the sports channels at the start of this month. Just because I’ll miss UEFA. Though they revert back to their changes and now I can watch full UEFA, Now I feel not to watch.

The next match I’m interested is Greece Vs. Sweden. expecting to be a tough match. I hope this match doesn’t disappoint me.
